Moving On

From the 1825 Quarterly Review: “What can be more palpably absurd than the prospect held out of locomotives traveling twice as fast as stagecoaches! We trust that Parliament will, in all railways it may sanction, limit the speed to eight of nine miles an hour, which is as great as can be ventured on with safety.” I wonder what those folks would think now.

The pace of life often pressures us to pass by significant events on the way to other significant events. We have to keep moving on. 2015 is now more than three months old. Christmas was just yesterday it seems and Easter just happened.

Speaking of Easter: Thank you, Wieuca, for your serving spirit during Holy Week. Hundreds of Wieucans participated and volunteered during the special activities of the week. Because of your efforts, we were able to communicate the Easter message through kind deeds, inspiring words, and loving presence.

Exciting and important events await us now as we move on. This Sunday we offer the “New to Wieuca” luncheon for new and prospective members right after morning worship. In the evening, 2nd Sunday Night Live at Wieuca features a wonderful piano-organ concert presented by Laurel Harrell and her mother, Beth Humber. We will be in the sanctuary beginning at 6:00pm.

Tony Campolo is one of the great communicators of our time. We are indeed fortunate that he will be with next weekend. You have two opportunities to hear him on Saturday night and then on Sunday morning. Check out the information available on our website and in the newsletter.

Summer will be here before we know it. It is not too early to circle a couple of dates on your calendar. Vacation Bible School will take place the week of June 8-12. Volunteers are being recruited right now. We are once again hosting the Global Leadership Summit. As a part of our promotion, we are offering again our “50 for 50” plan. The first 50 who sign up only have to pay $50. Even with our discount as a host site, the individual price is going up this year. Don’t wait to register for this world-class leadership event.

We conclude our “Simply Jesus” sermon series this coming Sunday. Many of our people were not present on Easter. Let’s shoot for a high attendance this Sunday in Covenant Groups and in worship. You need to be here with a friend by your side!
